Warner/Chappell Music is a global music publishing company and contains one of the world's greatest collections of musical compositions, ranging from well-known standards to new songs by emerging artists.
Warner/Chappell owns or controls rights to more than one million music compositions and has an artist roster that includes songs by more than 65,000 songwriters and composers from a diverse range of genres. The catalog includes standards such as "Happy Birthday to You," "Rhapsody in Blue," "Winter Wonderland," and the songs of Cole Porter and George and Ira Gershwin. Warner/Chappell's roster of songwriters includes artists such as Eric Clapton, Dido, Dr. Dre, Barry Gibb, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, Nickelback, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Paramore, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stephen Sondheim, T.I. and Timbaland.
Warner/Chappell is a leader in the creation of innovative strategies for the marketing and promotion of songwriters and their music and, in 2007, won its sixth consecutive SESAC "Publisher of the Year Award." That same year, Warner/Chappell announced a partnership with rock band Radiohead to create a first-of-its-kind rights clearance strategy for the digital release of the album, In Rainbows. In 2006, the company launched its Pan-European Digital Licensing (PEDL) initiative, which is driving collection societies across Europe to adopt simpler, one-stop licenses for Warner/Chappell songs used by digital music services.
Expanding Warner/Chappell's presence in online and mobile licensing of songs for film, television and other visual media is an integral component of our broader digital strategy, and a key element of WMG's effort to expand the role of the modern music company.
Warner/Chappell dates its origins back to 1811 and the formation of Chappell & Company, a music publishing house and instrument store on London's Bond Street, making it the oldest company in the WMG family. Its legendary music publishing catalog makes Warner/Chappell a natural first stop for A&R executives and record producers, feature film and television production companies and others looking to record or license some of the world's greatest music. We also administer the music and soundtracks of several third-party television and film producers and studios, including Lucasfilm, Ltd., Hallmark Entertainment and Disney Music Publishing.
In 2007, Warner/Chappell acquired Non-Stop Music, a leader in the fast-growing, high-margin music production business serving the professional world of movies, TV shows, commercials, trailers and radio. Over the past 26 years, Non-Stop has become one of the most influential music production and licensing companies, providing original music and world-renowned, fully administered selections from its library of more than 35,000 song titles. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Non-Stop features a state-of-the-art recording complex (L.A. East) and has offices in New York, L.A. and London. Non-Stop also maintains affiliate offices or operates through licensees throughout Europe, Australia and Asia.
In 2010, Warner/Chappell acquired Southside Independent Music Publishing, a leading independent music publishing company with a reputation for discovering and developing numerous talented writers, producers and artists across a wide range of genres. Southside was founded in 2004 by Cameron Strang with the signing of J.R. Rotem and, in just six years, built a roster that included Bruno Mars, producer Brody Brown, Nashville-based writers Ashley Gorley and Blair Daly, Christian music star Matthew West and Kings of Leon.
