Warner/Chappell is a leader in the creation of innovative strategies for the marketing and promotion of songwriters and their music. Expanding Warner/Chappell's presence in online and mobile licensing of songs for film, television and other visual media is an integral component of our broader digital strategy, and a key element of WMG's effort to expand the role of the modern music company.

Warner/Chappell dates its origins back to 1811 and the formation of Chappell & Company, a music publishing house and instrument store on London's Bond Street, making it the oldest company in the WMG family. Its legendary music publishing catalog makes Warner/Chappell a natural first stop for A&R executives and record producers, feature film and television production companies and others looking to record or license some of the world's greatest music.  Warner/Chappell also administers the music and soundtracks of several third-party television and film producers and studios including Lionsgate and Miramax, among others.

In 2011, Warner Music Group announced the appointment of veteran music industry entrepreneur, Cameron Strang, as CEO of Warner/Chappell Music. At the same time, Warner/Chappell acquired Southside Independent Music Publishing, a leading independent music publishing company with a reputation for discovering and developing numerous talented writers, producers and artists across a wide range of genres. Southside was founded in 2004 by Strang with the signing of J.R. Rotem and, in just six years, built a roster that included Bruno Mars, producer Brody Brown, Nashville-based writers Ashley Gorley and Blair Daly, Christian music star Matthew West and Kings of Leon.

For the first time in a decade, Warner/Chappell was named Music Publisher of the Year at the 2012 ASCAP Pop Music Awards. Underscoring the legendary publisher’s continued momentum, Warner/Chappell songwriters also picked up 19 awards, including the coveted “Song of the Year” award for “Just the Way You Are.”

Also that year, Warner/Chappell launched Warner/Chappell Production Music, uniting the company’s award-winning production music houses, which offers a vast library of music and genres spanning over 170,000 original cuts across more than 80 catalogs, all under one license.

In 2013, Warner/Chappell songwriters won a host of awards at the Grammys, including ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Record of the Year’ and ‘Best New Artist,’ and the publisher was named Music Publisher of the Year at the 32nd Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Awards.

Also this year, superstars such as Beyoncé and JAY Z signed agreements with Warner/Chappell; writers including Kendrick Lamar, Kacey Musgraves, Ben Howard, Pablo Alborán and others have reached new heights of success; the Les Misérables soundtrack topped charts on both sides of the Atlantic; and Warner/Chappell has signed a host of new talent around the world. Further, the company has continued to evolve the services it offers songwriters, including by combining its music publishing synchronization team with the recorded music licensing department of Rhino Entertainment.
